You Had My Heart From The Start.

You had my heart, when you first asked me on a coffee date.
You had my heart, from the first time you laid your lips against my hand. A romantic gesture.
You had my heart, when we would laugh so hard our stomachs hurt.

Those butterflies I had, turned into anxiety when you opened the front doors coming home.
I knew it was you by your footsteps coming up the stairs.
I knew it was you by the tightness and sick feeling in my stomach.
I knew you were mad by how your footsteps sounded.
I knew you were happy by how your footsteps sounded.
My body knew it was you.

Tears from laughing so hard, turned into quiet sobs alone after arguing.
The very same lips you used to kiss me with before leaving the house, were the very same lips that spouted hateful words towards me.

Broken glass and daily visits to the emergency rooms.
We stayed together so long I ended up despising you.
From love to fear.
From flowers to visits from the police.
Domestic violence and court dates.
From peace and love to chaos and hurt.

I gave you love and affection but at what cost.
Bruises and cuts came along with I'm sorry and I love you.
It won't happen again.
But it did.

You had my heart from the start and look at where we are now.
