The Wakeful Dreams Poem by Orin MSH

The Wakeful Dreams

One wakeful night the Dreams to me do come
And ghastly songs are whispered to my ears
What ghostly Fate will in pale Vision show
We think this Fancy will not do us harm

When I shall cease to be the slave of Fears
One wakeful night the Dreams to me has come
Among the fallen stars we fail to hear
The hems and haws of those given to gloom

And sullen Fate will in pale Wisdom show
Great Fire claims our trees with sparks that burn
Grimed maggots climb the spiral of our Doom
This wakeful night the Dreams to me still come

The kinks of Nature shall not let me be
With fair beloved in our nuptial room
And Love shall make us queasy and benumbed
The tolling bell of Life when we become
The undefiled groom and bride, Death endears

One wakeful night the Dreams to me do come
With ghostly Fate and its wan Wisdom show
